February 07, 2017
Cricket Australia (CA) will partner with the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) to host the 2017 World Indoor Cricket Federation (WICF) World Cup.
The 2017 WICF World Cup will be played in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), from 16 September to 23 September.
The event is expected to attract approximately 400 players and officials to Dubai’s Insportz Club, with the best players from nations including Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, England, Sri Lanka, India, Singapore, Malaysia and the UAE set to compete.
Cricket Australia’s Indoor Cricket Manager Briana Binch said:
“It’s a really exciting opportunity for Cricket Australia to host this year’s WICF World Cup in partnership with the ECB,” Binch said.
“Indoor cricket participation continues to grow in Australia, and we are determined to not only help grow the game here, but also help develop it abroad, in conjunction with the WICF.
“Hosting the tournament in Dubai ensures a central location to help as many nations as possible attend, and with the Insportz Club’s newly-renovated facilities, we believe this will provide an elite environment for the world’s best indoor cricketers to compete in for the title of world champions.”
CA’s partnership with the ECB will see the UAE enter teams for the first time at an International event, which has been made possible through their commitment to assist CA in the delivery of the event.
The 10th edition of the WICF World Cup will see players compete in four divisions - Open Men’s, Open Women’s, 21 & Under Men’s and 21 & Under Women’s.
Australia is the reigning champion in all four divisions, following a clean sweep of the competition in the 2014 edition in Wellington, New Zealand.
