Marcus Stoinis has been named the 2019-20 KFC Big Bash League Player of the Tournament.

The award, voted by the umpires after each of the 56 regular season matches, comes after Stoinis became just the second player to pass 600 runs in a KFC BBL season.

The Melbourne Stars opening batsman’s most memorable moment came on January 12 at the MCG when he smashed 147 not out against the Sydney Sixers, setting a record for the highest individual score in League history.

His individual milestone came in a 207-run opening stand with Hilton Cartwright, another League record.

Stoinis finished top of the count on 26 votes, two clear of Sydney Sixers all-rounder Tom Curran and a further vote ahead of third-placed Alex Hales from the Sydney Thunder.

“I’m honoured to have been voted as the 2019-20 KFC Big Bash League Player of the Tournament,” Stoinis said.

“I love playing for the Melbourne Stars. This team is special to me and I love having the opportunity to run out onto the field with them.

“We’ve got a big match against the Sydney Thunder on Thursday night and I hope to see our Team Green fans at the MCG to help get us over the line.”

Two matches remain in KFC BBL|09, with The Challenger between the Melbourne Stars and Sydney Thunder this Thursday, February 6, to determine the Sydney Sixers’ opponent in The Final on Saturday, February 8.

Tickets remain available for The Challenger on Thursday from cricket.com.au/big-bash, starting at $9.00 for children, $18.00 for concessions and $25.00 for adults.

Fans can support The Big Appeal - which includes the Commbank Women's T20 International between Australia and England, the Bushfire Cricket Bash and the KFC BBL Final – at cricket.com.au/bigappeal.

All three matches in The Big Appeal, plus The Challenger, will be broadcast on Seven and Fox Cricket, with matches streamed via Kayo Sports.
