Reconciliation Round 2020
The inaugural Reconciliation Round for Community and Premier clubs for the 2019/20 season will take place on 1 February 2020. This is the same day that Australia and England women will play a Walkabout Wickets Reconciliation match in Canberra.
Cricket Australia encourages clubs around Australia to celebrate and acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders peoples and cultures on that weekend. This might mean doing any number of things:
- Connecting with Traditional owners and organising a Welcome to Country
- Doing an acknowledgement to country prior to taking the field
- Connecting with a local Indigenous artist and painting your stumps
- Unveiling a plaque or sign to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land in which your ground is located on.
However, one consistent act we recommend all clubs to get involved in on 1 February 2020 to demonstrate their commitment to Reconciliation between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians is pre-match for both teams and umpires to remove their shoes join together in a barefoot circle. Each individual is to place their hands on the backs of those next to them as a sign of support and a commitment to walk together toward Reconciliation. Once the commitment is made share images of your commitment on social media using the hashtag #reconciliationround
