Diversity and Inclusion
Committed to creating a safe environment for the LGBTQ+ community in all areas and levels of the game
Cricket Australia are committed to using education to create a safe environment for the LGBTQ+ community to watch and play cricket. Through our partnership with Pride in Sport we are focused on continuing to develop strategies and commit to actions to ensure inclusion and belonging are the first feelings experienced by anyone connecting with the game of cricket for the first time.
In 2019 Cricket Australia launched Guidelines for the inclusion of Transgender and Gender Diverse people in community cricket as well as an elite policy for those playing at the top level of the game. Australian Cricket supports the participation of gender diverse and transgender people electing to participate in Cricket in accordance with their Gender Identity, whether or not this aligns with the sex they were assigned at birth and supports them to do so in a safe and inclusive environment. The Sydney Sixers
Each year annually the Sydney Sixers host Pride Party matches as part of the WBBL and BBL. These matches are used as a visual symbol and celebration to ensure the LGBT+ community is welcomed at elite level cricket. Not just on those days but everyday.
The Sydney Sixers are the club for the Eastern and Northern parts of NSW and inspire others to find the courage to be themselves and the confidence to have a crack.
The Sixers are committed to using education to create a safe environment for the LGBT+ community to watch and play cricket and have developed a 3-year strategy aimed to delivering upon its purpose. This strategy was developed with consultation from Proud2Play, Rainbow Families and their Sixers LGBT+ Supporter Group.
Recently, the Sixers started an LGBT+ Supporter Group which is a place where Sydney Sixers supporters can come together to talk all things cricket, share events and gatherings in a safe place.
