Gillette One-Day International Series set to deliver entertainment on and off the field

January 12, 2018

The Gillette One-Day International Series between Australia and England is set to begin this Sunday, 14 January, at the MCG, and fans around the country can look forward to plenty of entertainment at the grounds in addition to the highly anticipated on-field rivalry.

The five-match series will visit Melbourne (14 January), Brisbane (19 January), Sydney (21 January), Adelaide (26 January), and Perth (28 January), and with both Australia and England squads boasting some of the finest ODI players in the world, the series is expected to be hard fought and highly entertaining.

The entertainment at the Gillette ODI Series extends well beyond the boundary ropes, however, with a range of activations and activities on offer for match attendees.

In what has quickly become a tradition for one-day international matches, fans are encouraged to embrace the fun and come to matches in dress up costumes for their chance to earn a spot on the exclusive Dress Up Deck at-match, which will be present at all venues excluding the Gabba, and go in the running to win a major prize of $10,000 at the end of the series. To be in the running, fans need to come to the cricket in their costume of choice and share a picture of themselves on Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #ODIdressup.

Official naming partner of the ODI Series, Gillette, will bring Australians closer to cricket than ever before through the Gillette Boundary Seating – the best seats in the house, literally located on the inside boundary. Fans at the MCG, SCG, Gabba and Adelaide Oval ODI matches will have the opportunity to submit an image, statement and the #GilletteCloseMatters hashtag via Instagram to be in the running for an upgrade to the Boundary Seats.

Cricket Australia’s international food markets, the Field of Flavours, return for the MCG and SCG ODI matches. Field of Flavours, located directly outside both venues, is free to enter even for those without a match ticket and combines a range of food offerings from leading street food vendors and great musical entertainment from local talent. Field of Flavours also features a big screen showing the cricket action and plenty of seating options, making it a great place to relax while still taking in the ODI atmosphere.

Melbourne will also play host to a new social entertainment experience, The Lawn, located across Bays 11 to 13 of the MCG. The Lawn deck is a relaxed and inviting space that will feature a tailored food and beverage menu, and comfortable seating options that allow fans to socialise with friends while still enjoying a great view of the on-field action.

Crowds at the Brisbane ODI will yet again have the chance to cool off and enjoy a unique cricket-watching experience on the Pool Deck at the Gabba. To be in with a chance for an at-match upgrade to the pool, fans need to come to the match in their best pool attire and share a photo to social media using the hashtag #cricketpooldeck.

Adelaide Oval will again host the Australia Day ODI, a match that has become a much-loved fixture for Adelaide locals. The wonderful surrounds of the Oval and Australia Day festivities offer a great way to celebrate the long weekend and a not-to-be-missed event.

The final ODI of the series will also be the opening sporting event at Optus Stadium, with fans in attendance being given the opportunity to witness world-class cricket in the new, state-of-the art stadium.

As a further enhancement to the at-match experience at the Gillette ODI Series, any fan at match with the latest version of CA Live installed on their phone will be able to access Cricket Australia Digital’s Matchday App. The Matchday app provides regular updates on activities and services at the venue, match information and video replays, and useful transport information, all designed to make attending international cricket even more appealing.

Cricket Australia Executive General Manager Events and Leagues, Anthony Everard, commented on the great entertainment on offer both on and off the field at the Gillette ODI Series:

“One-day international cricket has the potential to create great drama and excitement, and this is never more true than during an Ashes year. We are looking forward to a great contest between Australia and England across the five matches, and with both sides boasting some of the most entertaining players in the game fans will no doubt get to witness plenty of impressive performances with bat and ball.

“We are also very pleased to be offering so many entertainment options off the field to help enhance the fan experience and complement the fantastic on-field action. We know that people want options when it comes to enjoying their cricket experience and these offerings provide this flexibility.”
