Umpiring

Umpires play an important role in cricket, and this role was formally acknowledged in 2003-04 when Cricket Australia and the state/territory cricket associations celebrated the Year of the Official

There are a number of positions around cricket that can have you right in the middle of the action including being an official or scorer.

Umpires are the custodians of the MCC Laws of Cricket and without their expert knowledge and decision making, games would not occur. Cricket Australia provides an elite pathway for male and female umpires that include local representation and national competitions with a heightened focus on female involvement. Umpire numbers around Australia are now at record levels.

There are also opportunities to score at an elite level and provide official scorecards to the archives. If you would like to watch the world’s best go about their games and document each ball of it, click below to see how you can enter the world of scoring.
